For a non-First Person Shooter player, it should be pretty hard to understand some of the talk involved on a discussion about FPS titles, since the usage of acronyms instead of game titles is so common. This website is also a culprit at that, often mentioning only a few letters instead of the whole name and even featuring it on the mod graphics (for space economy purposes though).

With that in mind, and for future reference, here’s a list of acronyms used through the website – both on my posts and on the graphics. This comes straight from the game database used by the system.

  • AvP2: Alien versus Predator 2
  • BF2: Battlefield 2
  • BF2142: Battlefield 2142
  • BF42: Battlefield 1942
  • BFV: Battlefield Vietnam
  • CoD: Call of Duty (1, 2, 3)
  • D3: Doom 3
  • ET or W:ET: Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
  • HL: Half-life (1, 2)
  • MoH: Medal of Honor
  • Q: Quake (1, 2, 3, 4)
  • Q3A: Quake 3 (same as Q3)
  • QW: QuakeWorld (usually the same as Quake 1)
  • SoF: Soldier of Fortune (1, 2)
  • SS: Serious Sam (1, 2)
  • UT or UT99: Unreal Tournament (the original)
  • UT2k3: Unreal Tournament 2003
  • UT2k4: Unreal Tournament 2004

There are some minor terminologies – for example, “SS:SE” stands for “Serious Sam: Second Encounter” – but that’s the gist of it.

This website gathers data for various First Person Shooter games for PCs, and then build graphics with those numbers. This brings no answers, just questions. Where do we go from here?
